Chances are, if you see yourself as a narrative journalist, it’s because you’re secretly, maybe even unconsciously, an artist. It’s the artist in you who can tell a telling detail from all the other junk in a room, or who can recognize a killer quote jumbled into normal human babble. And it’s only an artist who dares to imagine a source into a character, a character into a scene, a scene into a story that unfolds over time. In most professional settings, we have to suppress the inner artist. But Fortellingens Kraft isn’t most places. Let’s talk about the creative magic we (must) take with us, to the reporting field and the writing desk, to turn the news into narrative.
